Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes fidelity to one’s word and the prioritizing of rightful succession: a spoken commitment is treated as morally binding, shaping political legitimacy and dynastic continuity.

A pledge is being made to follow another’s instruction and to recognize as king the son who will be born from a particular woman, thereby settling the question of future rulership through an agreed condition.
