Āṇīmāṇḍavya–Upākhyāna
The Account of Āṇīmāṇḍavya and the Birth of Vidura
The verse foregrounds dharma as proper conduct: a host should receive a guest with vidhivat honor—ritual propriety, respectful seating, and courteous speech—before pursuing any personal or political aims.
Dāśa, the Niṣāda leader, formally welcomes and honors the arriving person, seats him in the royal court among accompanying kṣatriyas, and then begins to speak—marking the start of a courtly exchange framed by etiquette.
