Parīkṣit’s Inquiry into Vṛtrāsura’s Bhakti and the Beginning of Citraketu’s Trial

Selbst Mägde werden, indem sie dem Herrn dienen, geehrt und haben keinen Grund zu klagen. Wir aber sind Mägde der Magd; darum sind wir höchst unglücklich.
This verse voices the grief of one who has served dutifully yet feels repeatedly disregarded—showing how honor and neglect can deeply affect the heart even within dharmic household duties.
In Canto 6, Chapter 14, Citraketu’s queen laments her misfortune and sense of being slighted despite loyal service, expressing her inner distress within the royal household context.
Serve with sincerity, but also communicate respectfully when feeling unseen; the verse reminds us that unaddressed neglect can become suffering, so relationships need both duty and empathy.
