The Dynasty of Vaivasvata Manu Begins — Ilā/Sudyumna and the Birth of Purūravā
aprajasya manoḥ pūrvaṁ vasiṣṭho bhagavān kila mitrā-varuṇayor iṣṭiṁ prajārtham akarod vibhuḥ
Anfangs hatte Manu keinen Sohn.
This verse states that when Manu was without children, Sage Vasiṣṭha performed an iṣṭi-yajña specifically for progeny, invoking the deities Mitra and Varuṇa.
Because Manu was childless; as Manu’s priest and well-wisher, Vasiṣṭha arranged a prajā-artham (progeny-oriented) ritual to help establish the royal lineage.
