Kṛṣṇa Defeats Bāṇāsura and Receives Śiva’s Prayers
The Śoṇitapura Battle and the Jvara Episode
मोहयित्वा तु गिरिशं जृम्भणास्त्रेण जृम्भितम् । बाणस्य पृतनां शौरिर्जघानासिगदेषुभि: ॥ १४ ॥
mohayitvā tu giriśaṁ jṛmbhaṇāstreṇa jṛmbhitam bāṇasya pṛtanāṁ śaurir jaghānāsi-gadeṣubhiḥ
Nachdem Er Girīśa (Śiva) mit dem Jṛmbhaṇāstra verwirrte und ihn zum Gähnen brachte, erschlug Śaurī, der Herr Kṛṣṇa, Bāṇāsuras Heer mit Schwert, Keule und Pfeilen.
In this verse, the Jṛmbhaṇa-astra is a divine weapon used by Kṛṣṇa that induces yawning and stupor, temporarily disabling even Lord Śiva so the battle can proceed.
Because Śiva was supporting Bāṇāsura in the fight, Kṛṣṇa employed the Jṛmbhaṇa weapon to neutralize Śiva’s immediate interference without permanently harming him, and then routed Bāṇa’s forces.
Even powerful obstacles can be overcome when one takes shelter of the Supreme Lord—Kṛṣṇa protects His purpose and devotees, and no opposition can ultimately prevail against divine will.
