Īśvara (The Lord; here, Śiva as the instructing deity in the abhiṣeka context)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Dīkṣā/abhiṣeka setup: after Śiva-arcana, perform abhiṣeka for the śiṣya’s prosperity; arrange nine kumbhas in directional order starting from Īśāna (NE), establishing a mandalic field for consecration.","sutra_style":true}

Concept: Dik (direction) is sacralized; prosperity (śrī) is invoked through ordered spatial ritual, making the initiate’s life ‘aligned’ with īśvara-centered cosmos.
Application: In initiation/consecration ceremonies, mark directions, begin placements from NE (Īśāna), and maintain consistent clockwise order to preserve ritual coherence.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: ity = iti; 'dhyāyaḥ elision: 'dhyāyaḥ = adhyāyaḥ after avagraha; śivamabhyarcya = śivam + abhyarcya; kuryācchiṣyādike = kuryāt + śiṣya-ādike; kumbhānīśādikāṣṭhāsu = kumbhān + īśa-ādi-kāṣṭhāsu.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 89 (ekatattva-dīkṣā conclusion); Agni Purana 90 (abhiṣeka-ādi procedures continue beyond this opening)
It gives a core abhiṣeka procedure: worship Śiva, perform consecratory bathing for the disciple’s auspicious welfare, and ritually place nine kumbhas in an ordered directional layout beginning from Īśāna (north-east).
It shows the Agni Purāṇa functioning as a practical ritual handbook (pūjā-vidhi/tantric liturgy), preserving procedural details like kalasha/kumbha arrangement and directional sequencing—technical knowledge alongside its many other domains.
Abhiṣeka after proper worship is framed as a means to generate śrī (auspicious prosperity) and purification for the disciple/participants, with correct directional placement supporting ritual order (ṛta) and efficacy (siddhi) of the consecration.
