Procedure for Purifying Mantra-Vidyā

Application: Before sleep and upon waking, practice state-witnessing: recollect ‘Rudra as kāraṇa’ and review body-to-world as appearances within awareness, reducing fear and fragmentation.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 86 (Rudra-tattva / Yoga-vidyā portion)
It teaches a contemplative technique (bhāvana): recognize Rudra as the causal ground even in deep sleep, and mentally realize all phenomena—starting from embodied existence—as resting within vidyā (conscious awareness/knowledge).
Beyond rituals and external disciplines, the Agni Purana also preserves yogic-metaphysical instruction: it integrates Shaiva tattva (Rudra as cause) with a psychology of consciousness-states, showing the text’s breadth from practice to philosophy.
By contemplating Rudra as the inner cause in all states, one shifts identification from transient manifestations to the causal consciousness, supporting purification of perception and steady spiritual insight (jñāna-niṣṭhā).
