Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 9

Chapter 81 —

Procedure for Samaya Initiation

Concept: Dharma accommodates gradations of capacity; even when full ‘seed’ conditions are absent, duties and eligibility are analyzed by karma-type (nitya/naimittika/kāmya).

Application: When resources, training, or mantra-adhikāra are lacking, prioritize nitya duties and perform permitted simplified observances under guidance rather than abandoning dharma altogether.

Khanda Section: Dharma-shastra / Achara (Eligibility for rites: Nitya–Naimittika–Kamya Karma)

Primary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

It defines ritual eligibility (adhikāra): for those lacking capacity, a simplified or ‘seedless’ form of observance—without full customary formalities—still allows performance across nitya, naimittika, and kāmya rites.

It functions like a Dharma-shastra digest inside the Purana, classifying rites (nitya/naimittika/kāmya) and stating practical eligibility rules—showing the Agni Purana’s wide scope beyond mythology into applied ritual law.

It preserves access to dharmic practice even for the incapable by permitting simplified observance, supporting continuity of duty and merit while acknowledging real-world limitations in ritual competence and resources.
