Raṇadīkṣā (War-Consecration) — Agni Purāṇa Adhyāya 235

Concept: Systematization of practical knowledge: naming and classifying tactical forms makes complex battlefield coordination possible.
Application: Maintain a formation manual: when allied with a larger force, assign smaller elite units to sūcīmukha spearhead; choose formation families (living-model vs object-model) based on terrain and enemy.

Related Themes: Agni Purāṇa 235.29 (named vyūhas list continues)
It teaches Dhanurveda tactics: the “sūcīmukha” (needle-point) battle-front suited for a smaller unit operating with a larger force, and it classifies vyūhas into living-being (prāṇyaṅga) models and inanimate/object (dravya) models.
By preserving formal military taxonomy—naming a specific tactical front (anīka) and giving a conceptual classification of formations—this chapter shows the Agni Purana’s coverage extending beyond theology into practical statecraft and battlefield science.
While primarily technical, it supports the dharmic duty of protection (rakṣaṇa) by guiding disciplined, effective defense and organized conduct in warfare, aligning martial action with order rather than chaos.
