It teaches Śikṣā (phonetics): how varga-s (sound-classes) are distinguished by the organs/places of articulation—palate, tongue, and teeth—useful for correct recitation and pronunciation.
Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana also preserves technical disciplines like grammar and phonetics; this verse is a compact rule for articulatory classification, showing its coverage of linguistic science.
Accurate pronunciation supports faithful mantra and scripture recitation, which is traditionally held to preserve meaning, reduce recitational faults (doṣa), and enhance the efficacy and merit (puṇya) of sacred chanting.
