Concept: Bhakti-centered soteriology: Hari-smaraṇa at the death-moment overrides deficiencies of saṃskāra; tīrtha acts (Gaṅgā) support preta’s transition.
Application: Cultivate nāma-smaraṇa/devotional remembrance throughout life and arrange asthi-visarjana in Gaṅgā (or equivalent sanctioned tīrtha) as part of antyeṣṭi observances.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 158 (śauca preliminaries); Agni Purana 159 (asaṃskṛta-ādi-śauca and antyeṣṭi rules continuing)
It introduces rules of śauca (purificatory discipline) for cases where the deceased lacked saṃskāras, and states the ritual efficacy of asthi-visarjana (immersing bones in the Gaṅgā) for the preta’s uplift.
It combines dharmaśāstra-style impurity law (aśauca/śauca), funerary procedure (bones immersion), and theology (Hari-smaraṇa leading to svarga/mokṣa), showing the text’s coverage of ritual, social law, and soteriology in one continuum.
It frames remembrance of Hari at death as salvific (svarga/mokṣa) regardless of ritual completeness, while prescribing Gaṅgā bone-immersion as an act that promotes the deceased’s auspicious post-mortem progression (abhyudaya).
