Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Samanya","practical_application":"Cosmographic rules for non-Bhārata varṣas: time-reckoning differs, meteorology differs, and each varṣa has boundary-mountain systems—useful for puranic world-structure mapping.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Varṣa-conditions: no yuga-reckoning, earthly waters, no rain-clouds; fourteen kulācalas per varṣa","lookup_keywords":["yuga not counted","no clouds","kulachala","varsha mountains","earthly waters"],"quick_summary":"These varṣas do not measure time by Kṛta/Tretā/Dvāpara/Kali; their waters are ‘earthly’ and they lack rain-bearing clouds; each varṣa is bounded by sets of principal mountains (seven and seven)."}

Concept: Relativity of time and natural law across cosmic regions; order is maintained through boundary-structures (kulācalas).

Application: Encourages a layered worldview: local experience is not the measure of all realms; supports contemplative humility about cosmic scale.

Khanda Section: Bhugola (Cosmography: Jambudvipa, Varshas, Mountains and World-Structure)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: Kingdom

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A schematic cosmographic scene: varṣas encircled by boundary mountains, with a sky notably free of rain-clouds and a caption-like indication that yuga-counting does not apply.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized concentric geography with mountain chains (kulachalas) as ornate bands, clear sky without clouds, symbolic water bodies labeled ‘bhaumāni’, traditional border motifs","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, diagrammatic Jambudvipa with embossed gold mountain rings, clear blue sky panels without clouds, decorative inscriptions about ‘no Kṛta-ādi kalpanā’","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean instructional cosmography chart: varsha blocks, two sets of seven kulachalas marked, minimal clouds, explanatory Devanagari labels","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, semi-cartographic landscape with repeated mountain ridges forming borders, unusually clear atmosphere, fine topographic detailing and calligraphic notes"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Bilawal","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: nāsti = na + asti. bhaumāny ambhāṃsi = bhaumāni + ambhāṃsi (i + a → y a). nāmbudāḥ = na + ambudāḥ (a + a → ā). sarveṣv eteṣu = sarveṣu + eteṣu (u + e → v e).

FAQs

It imparts Purāṇic cosmographic knowledge: certain varṣa-regions are described as having no yuga-based time reckoning, possessing terrestrial waters, lacking rain-clouds, and being bounded by sets of kulācala (principal mountain ranges).

It exemplifies the Agni Purāṇa’s survey of disciplines beyond ritual—here, systematic world-geography (bhūgola), including climatic features, temporal frameworks (yuga reckoning), and geomorphological structuring via kulācala ranges.

By mapping the cosmos in a Purāṇic framework, the verse supports dharmic contemplation of the ordered universe (loka-vyavasthā), strengthening faith in scriptural cosmology and aiding devotional reflection on creation’s structure.
