आपोहिष्ठेति तिसृभिर्मार्जनं तु ततश्चरेत् । भूमौ शिरसि चाकाश आकाशे भुवि मस्तके
āpohiṣṭheti tisṛbhirmārjanaṃ tu tataścaret | bhūmau śirasi cākāśa ākāśe bhuvi mastake
তারপর ‘আপো হি ষ্ঠা…’ দিয়ে আরম্ভ তিন মন্ত্রে মার্জন করবে। প্রথা অনুসারে ‘ভূমি’ ও ‘আকাশ’-এর বিন্যাস—কখনো ভূমিতে, কখনো শিরে, কখনো আকাশে, কখনো মস্তকে—এভাবে সম্পন্ন হয়।
