dadāti śraddhayā tatra so'kṣayaṃ svargamaśnute | devakhātasya māhātmyaṃ yaḥ paṭhecchivasannidhau | dīrghamāyustathā saukhyaṃ labhate nātra saṃśayaḥ
Vyāsa (deduced; didactic narration of tīrtha-phala)
Tirtha: Devakhāta
Type: kshetra
Scene: Inside a Śiva shrine near the riverbank, devotees sit as a reciter chants Devakhāta-māhātmya; a liṅga with bilva leaves and lamps glows. Outside, donors offer gifts with folded hands, suggesting akṣaya-svarga fruit.
Faithful charity and devotional recitation of a sacred site’s māhātmya—especially before Śiva—are praised as powerful causes of lasting merit and well-being.
Devakhāta is explicitly named as the tirtha whose greatness is being praised.
Dāna (giving with śraddhā) at the site, and pāṭha (recitation) of Devakhāta-māhātmya in Śiva’s presence.
