It teaches that devotion becomes complete when inner reverence is expressed through disciplined upacāras—offering fragrance (dhūpa) and light (dīpa) to Śiva with His sacred names, aligning the worshipper’s mind with Śiva as Pati (the Lord) who grants purification and grace.
Incense and lamp are classic external offerings to Saguna Śiva in the form of the Liṅga; through these, the devotee honors Śiva’s manifest presence while remembering His transcendent nature, using mantra to connect the visible rite to the invisible Reality.
Perform Liṅga-pūjā by offering dhūpa while chanting “namaḥ kapardine,” then offer dīpa while chanting “nama āśave,” maintaining one-pointed attention (bhāva) on Śiva’s presence and auspiciousness.
