Gṛhapati’s Vow: Turning Grief into Mṛtyuñjaya–Mahākāla Sādhana (गृहपतेः प्रतिज्ञा—मृत्युंजय-महाकालजपः)
अष्टाधिकसहस्रैस्तु सुमनोभिर्विनिर्मिताम् । स पक्षे वाथ वा मासे कन्दमूलफलाशनः
aṣṭādhikasahasraistu sumanobhirvinirmitām | sa pakṣe vātha vā māse kandamūlaphalāśanaḥ
সে মালাটি আট হাজারেরও অধিক উৎকৃষ্ট পুষ্পে নির্মিত ছিল। কন্দ, মূল ও ফল আহার করে সাধক এই ব্রত এক পক্ষকাল—অথবা এক পূর্ণ মাস—পালন করবে।

Significance: Vrata-like offering of an immense flower-garland (8,000+ blossoms) with regulated diet (kandamūla-phala) for pakṣa or māsa functions as tapas that attenuates pāśa (bondage) and prepares the aspirant for Śiva’s grace.

It highlights a Shaiva vrata where external purity (abundant flower-offering) is joined with inner discipline (simple sāttvic diet), showing that devotion to Saguna Shiva is strengthened by restraint and steadiness over a fixed period.
The verse points to structured pūjā through rich floral offerings—an archetypal mode of Linga/Saguna Shiva worship—where the devotee’s regulated conduct becomes part of the offering, aligning body and mind for Shiva’s grace.
A timed observance (fortnight or month) with kanda–mūla–phala āhāra (bulbs, roots, fruits) alongside flower worship; it can be paired with daily japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple pūjā discipline.
