Sukta 149

Sukta 1.149

Inside Sukta 149

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Agni is invoked as lord of vast riches, drawn to the place where wealth and offering meet, amid the lively sound of the pressing-stones.

  2. Development

  3. Climax

Agni’s solar-like blaze and ‘hundred-souled’ vitality awaken the fortress of being into light, revealing hidden force and plenitude.

Frequently Asked Questions

Agni, the Vedic Fire—invoking priest (Hotṛ) and divine messenger who carries offerings and awakens light and power.

The pressing-stones (adrayaḥ) signal the Soma-pressing rite; their sound marks the ritual moment when Agni is invited to energize and accept the offering.

It points to Agni’s repeated birth: kindled again in the ritual fire and also born in the cosmic order—symbolically, the inner flame reawakened in the practitioner.
