Indrajit’s Rite and the Invisible Assault
लक्ष्मणस्तुततस्सुङ्क्रृद्धोभ्रातरंवाक्यमब्रवीत् ।ब्राह्ममस्त्रंप्रयोक्ष्यामिवधार्थंसर्वरक्षसाम् ।।।।
lakṣmaṇas tu tataḥ saṅkruddho bhrātaraṃ vākyam abravīt | brāhmam astraṃ prayokṣyāmi vadhārthaṃ sarvarakṣasām ||
Then Lakshmana also, enraged, spoke to his brother, saying," I will kill all the Rakshasas using the weapon of Brahma."
The verse presents a dharmic tension: righteous anger can arise, but escalation toward indiscriminate destruction risks violating proportionality and justice.
After severe attacks and casualties, Lakṣmaṇa proposes using a supreme weapon to annihilate the enemy host.
Protective zeal and readiness to act; yet it also illustrates how anger can push even the virtuous toward excess.
