Adhyaya 60: Self-Assertion, Daiva, and the Rhetoric of Inevitability (उद्योग पर्व)
अकामद्वेषसंयोगलो भद्रोहाच्च भारत । उपेक्षया च भावानां देवा देवत्वमाप्रुवन्
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
akāmadveṣasaṃyogalobhadrohācca bhārata |
upekṣayā ca bhāvānāṃ devā devatvam āpruvan ||
হে ভারত! কাম (আসক্তি), দ্বেষ, সংযোগ (মমতা-আবদ্ধতা), লোভ ও দ্ৰোহ (শত্রুতাপূর্ণ ক্রোধ) থেকে মুক্ত থাকা এবং কলুষিত ভাবকে উপেক্ষা করার কারণেই দেবতারা দেবত্ব লাভ করেছেন।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Divinity (devatva) is presented as the fruit of inner purification: freedom from desire, hatred, possessive clinging, greed, and hostile wrath, along with the disciplined practice of disregarding corrupting mental states.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a moral principle is stated to the Bharata listener: the gods became gods not merely by power, but by ethical and psychological mastery—abandoning key inner दोषs and remaining detached from tainted भावs.
