Chapter 42

छन्दांसि नाम क्षत्रिय तान्यथर्वा पुरा जगौ महर्षिसड्घ एष: । छन्‍्दोविदस्ते य उत नाधीतवेदा न वेदवेद्यस्य विदुर्हि तत्त्वम्‌

chandāṁsi nāma kṣatriya tāny atharvā purā jagau maharṣi-saṅgha eṣaḥ | chando-vidas te ya uta nādhīta-vedā na veda-vedyasya vidur hi tattvam, rājan |

সনৎসুজাত বললেন—“হে ক্ষত্রিয়! প্রাচীনকালে ঋষি অথর্বা এই মহর্ষিসঙ্ঘের সম্মুখে যে স্তোত্র গেয়েছিলেন, সেগুলিই ‘ছন্দ’—বৈদিক মন্ত্র। কিন্তু যারা বেদ অধ্যয়ন করেও বেদের দ্বারা জ্ঞেয় পরমাত্ম-তত্ত্ব জানে না, তারা প্রকৃতপক্ষে বেদজ্ঞ নয়, হে রাজন।”

Educational Q&A

Mere mastery of Vedic recitation or learning does not make one a true knower of the Veda; true knowledge is knowing the ultimate reality (that which the Veda intends to reveal).
