वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma in social conduct: a righteous king honors a guest properly and shows courteous concern for elders and even politically opposed relatives. Ethical kingship is expressed through truthfulness, restraint, and respectful inquiry rather than hostility.
After meeting Vidura, Yudhiṣṭhira performs the formal welcome and then asks about the well-being of Dhṛtarāṣṭra and his sons. The narrator Vaiśampāyana frames this as a moment of proper reception and dutiful communication between the Pāṇḍava court and the Kuru household.
