Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how a single authoritative statement on dharma can fracture an audience: some approve and some condemn. It underscores that ethical discourse in a royal court is contested, and that public reaction often reflects competing interests and moral intuitions rather than unanimous agreement.

After Bhīṣma finishes speaking, the assembled kings react loudly. The court divides—some rejoice at his words, while others openly criticize him—showing tension and polarization within the सभा (assembly).
