Chapter 17
अजुन उवाच अयं वै सत्यजिद् राजन्नद्य त्वां रक्षिता युधि | प्रियमाणे च पाज्चाल्ये नाचार्य: काममाप्स्यति
arjuna uvāca | ayaṃ vai satyajid rājan adya tvāṃ rakṣitā yudhi | priyamāṇe ca pāñcālye nācāryaḥ kāmam āpsyati ||
অর্জুন বললেন—হে রাজন, এই পাঞ্চালরাজপুত্র সত্যজিৎ আজ যুদ্ধে আপনাকে রক্ষা করবে। যতক্ষণ পাঞ্চালপুত্র বিজয়ী থাকবে, ততক্ষণ আচার্য তাঁর অভিপ্রায় পূর্ণ করতে পারবেন না।
अजुन उवाच
The verse highlights battlefield dharma through responsible protection and strategic reassurance: a leader’s safety is entrusted to capable allies, and an opponent’s objective can be ethically countered by steadfast defense rather than reckless aggression.
Arjuna addresses a king on his side, assuring him that the Pāñcāla warrior Satyajit will guard him in the day’s fighting; as long as Satyajit holds the field, Droṇa will be unable to fulfill the particular aim he is pursuing in that phase of the battle.
