उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
विनि:सृत्य महोल्काभिस्तिमिरं सर्वतोदिशम् । अन्योन्यमुपतिष्ठद्धिस्तत्र चोक्त महर्षिभि:,सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंमें अन्धकार व्याप्त होनेके कारण बड़ी-बड़ी मशालें जलाकर घरसे निकले हुए महर्षियोंने एक-दूसरेके पास उपस्थित हो इन उत्पातोंके सम्बन्धमें अपना मत इस प्रकार प्रकट किया है
viniḥsṛtya maholkābhis timiraṃ sarvato diśam | anyonyam upatiṣṭhaddhis tatra cokta maharṣibhiḥ ||
চারদিকে ঘোর অন্ধকার ছড়িয়ে পড়লে মহর্ষিগণ জ্বলন্ত মশাল হাতে আশ্রম থেকে বেরিয়ে এলেন। তাঁরা পরস্পরের কাছে সমবেত হয়ে এই অশুভ লক্ষণগুলির বিষয়ে নিজেদের বিচক্ষণ মত প্রকাশ করলেন।
