A righteous petition receives divine affirmation; Brahmā’s “tathāstu” represents the stabilizing power of sanctioned truth and dharma, after which the gods withdraw, their purpose fulfilled.
The gods have spoken to Brahmā; he responds with pleased assent—“So be it”—and then the gods depart, returning as they had come.
