भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma teaches that one who seeks worldly benefits—results, reputation, and nourishment—should pursue them through dharmic giving: donate ghee to the twice-born while maintaining purity and self-mastery. Desire is not endorsed as license for greed; it is redirected into disciplined generosity.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma is advising Yudhiṣṭhira on specific forms of dāna and their intended fruits. Here he prescribes ghṛta-dāna as an auspicious gift for those aiming at prosperity, fame, and well-being, emphasizing the donor’s inner and outer purity.
