Adhyāya 39 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s inquiry on attachment (saṅga) and relational restraint
iti śrīmahābhārate anuśāsanaparvaṇi dānadharmaparvaṇi brāhmaṇapraśaṃsāyām indraśambarasaṃvāde ṣaṭtriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ
The colophon frames the chapter as instruction in dāna-dharma (the ethics of giving) and as a praise of brāhmaṇical virtues, conveyed through a dialogue (saṃvāda). It signals that generosity and reverence for learned, disciplined conduct are central ethical concerns in this portion of the Anuśāsana Parva.
This verse is a concluding colophon: it marks the end of the chapter situated within the Anuśāsana Parva’s dāna-dharma material, specifically the Indra–Śambara dialogue occurring in the context of praising Brāhmaṇas. It does not advance plot directly but identifies the textual setting and topic.
