नतु वक्षिन्नयेत् प्राज्ञो गृहीत्वैव करे नरम् । उच्यमानस्तु धर्मेण धर्मलोकभयच्छले
na tu vakṣy nayed prājño gṛhītvāiva kare naram | ucyamānas tu dharmeṇa dharmalokabhayacchale ||
ভীষ্ম বললেন—যতই প্রাজ্ঞ হোক, কেউ কারও হাত ধরে জোর করে তাকে ধর্মপথে বসাতে পারে না। তবে ন্যায়সম্মতভাবে ধর্মের কথা বলে এবং লোকলজ্জা-ভয়ের অবলম্বন নিয়েও তাকে সৎ আচরণের দিকে প্রেরণা দিতে পারে।
