Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

गृहं च सुपरिच्छन्नं धनधान्यसमाकुलम् । भारद्वाजाय सुप्रीत: प्रत्यपादयत प्रभु:
gṛhaṃ ca suparicchannaṃ dhanadhānyasamākulam | bhāradvājāya suprītaḥ pratyapādayat prabhuḥ ||
বৈশম্পায়ন বললেন—অত্যন্ত প্রসন্ন হয়ে সেই পরাক্রমশালী প্রভু ভারদ্বাজপুত্রকে সুসজ্জিত, ধন-ধান্যে পরিপূর্ণ এক গৃহ প্রদান করলেন।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dāna and guru-satkara: honoring and materially supporting those connected with learning and discipline. Prosperity is portrayed as ethically meaningful when used to uphold worthy persons and institutions.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that a powerful figure, pleased with Bhāradvāja, grants him a well-furnished house abundant in wealth and grain—an act of patronage and respect that frames the social duty of supporting revered teachers and sages.
