FAQs

This verse explicitly recommends performing śrāddha on the eleventh day (ekādaśāha), aligning ritual support for the departed during the difficult transition described as being led by Yama’s attendants.

It portrays the post-death condition as distressing—marked by loud lamentation—and states that the departed is taken along by Yama’s messengers, implying the urgency of timely rites like śrāddha.

Perform memorial rites with care—especially the eleventh-day śrāddha—following family tradition and qualified guidance, and treat death-ritual observances as acts of duty (dharma) and compassion for the departed.
