प्राचीनबर्हिरुवाच भगवंस्ते वचोऽस्माभिर्न सम्यगवगम्यते । कवयस्तद्विजानन्ति न वयं कर्ममोहिता: ॥ १ ॥

Transliteration

prācīnabarhir uvāca bhagavaṁs te vaco ’smābhir na samyag avagamyate kavayas tad vijānanti na vayaṁ karma-mohitāḥ

Translation

রাজা প্রাচীনবরহি বললেন— হে ভগবান, আপনার বলা পুরঞ্জন-রূপক কাহিনির তাত্পর্য আমরা সম্পূর্ণ বুঝতে পারছি না। আত্মজ্ঞান-সিদ্ধ কবিগণই তা জানেন; আমরা কর্মমোহে আবদ্ধ, তাই এর উদ্দেশ্য উপলব্ধি করা দুষ্কর।
