Maitreya (addressing Sage Parāśara)
In this verse it functions as the highest goal beyond all other abodes—prompting a moksha-focused explanation of the ultimate, transcendent destination.
This verse sets up Maitreya’s request; Parāśara’s ensuing teaching (in the dialogue) typically clarifies the means—right understanding, devotion, and disciplined living oriented to the Supreme.
The “foremost of all abodes” implies a supreme, final reality; in Vaishnava framing, that highest attainment culminates in relation to Vishnu as the ultimate refuge and goal.
