Suta Goswami

Tattva Level: pasha

Shiva Form: Īśāna

Sthala Purana: Not a site-legend; it asserts ritual-adhikāra (eligibility) by Śiva’s command—an Āgamic-sounding rule that certain functions in Śiva-pūjā are reserved for designated agents (here, the Vaṭukas).

Significance: Highlights the principle that Śiva’s worship bears fruit when performed according to niyama (injunction) and proper adhikāra; pilgrimage/temple worship is likewise framed as rule-governed (vidhi).

FAQs

It emphasizes adhikāra (spiritual eligibility) and disciplined order in sādhanā: Śiva’s worship is to be completed first and correctly, because devotion aligned with Śiva’s injunction is what bears fruit and leads toward grace (anugraha).

In Kotirudra contexts—often tied to Jyotirliṅga pilgrimage—this verse supports the principle that liṅga-pūjā (Saguna Śiva worship through form) must be performed as prescribed; only those who follow Śiva’s stated rule are considered authorized to proceed with the rite and its results.

The takeaway is to perform Śiva-pūjā in the proper sequence and with due completion—typically including mantra-japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and prescribed offerings—rather than mixing or bypassing the core Śaiva observance.
