FAQs

It is a colophon-style closing line that names the text (Padma Purāṇa), the section (Sṛṣṭi-khaṇḍa), and the chapter title and number, marking the end of Adhyāya 53.

The title signals an ethical focus on alobha (non-greed) illustrated through a narrative involving a Śūdra, emphasizing moral restraint and inner discipline.

Here “Book 1” corresponds to the first of the traditional seven khaṇḍas—Sṛṣṭi, Bhūmi, Svarga, Brahma, Pātāla, Uttara, and Kriyā-yoga-sāra—so it identifies the Sṛṣṭi-khaṇḍa portion of the Purāṇa.
