Adhyaya 92 — Devi’s Assurance of Protection and the Fruits of Reciting the Devi Mahatmyam
upasargān aśeṣāṃs tu mahāmārīsamudbhavān |
tathā trividham utpātaṃ māhātmyaṃ śamayen mama ||
Purāṇic devotion is presented as social medicine: the recitation is not only personal solace but also a communal śānti-practice in times of epidemic and collective anxiety.
Dharma and phala: ritual-therapeutic application of sacred narrative; not a cosmological lakṣaṇa itself, but a Purāṇic function supporting society’s welfare.
‘Mahāmārī’ and ‘utpāta’ can denote disruptions in prāṇa and in the perceived order of the world. The Māhātmya, as concentrated śakti-vāk, re-establishes inner and outer ‘ṛta’ (order) through śānti.
