Adhyaya 8 — Harishchandra’s Trial: Truth, the Sale of Family, and Bondage to a Chandala

Sanskrit

अहो महात्मना तेन प्राप्तं कृच्छ्रमनुत्तमम् ।

कच्चित् सुखमनुप्राप्तं तादृगेव द्विजोत्तमाः ॥

Transliteration

aho mahātmanā tena prāptaṃ kṛcchram anuttamam | kaccit sukham anuprāptaṃ tādṛg eva dvijottamāḥ ||

Translation

আহা! সেই মহাত্মাই অতুলনীয় ক্লেশ সহ্য কৰিছে। হে দ্বিজশ্ৰেষ্ঠ, তেওঁ এতিয়া তদনুৰূপ (যথোচিত) সুখ লাভ কৰিছে নে?
