Adhyaya 53 — Rudrasarga and the Measure of the Manvantaras: Svayambhuva Manu, Priyavrata’s Line, and the Seven Dvipas
priyavratasya putrais tu bhuktvā svāyambhuve 'ntare |
eṣa svāyambhuvaḥ sargaḥ kathitas te dvijottama ||
Purāṇic history is presented as structured time: human lineages are embedded within cosmic cycles, encouraging humility and dharmic orientation within vast chronology.
Directly Sarga and Manvantara: the narrator explicitly labels the section as ‘Svāyambhuva sarga’ and situates it within a specific Manu-period.
Calling it ‘sarga’ in a Manu-specific frame hints that ‘creation’ is not a single event but a patterned re-manifestation across cycles—outer cosmogony reflecting inner renewal.
