Adhyaya 45 — Jaimini’s Cosmological Questions and the Opening of Markandeya’s Account of Primary Creation
प्रवृत्ते च निवृत्ते च भवतां ज्ञानकर्मणि ।
मतिमस्तमलां मन्ये यथा नान्यस्य कस्यचित् ॥
pravṛtte ca nivṛtte ca bhavatāṃ jñānakarmaṇi | matim as-tamalāṃ manye yathā nānyasya kasyacit ||
প্ৰবৃত্তি আৰু নিবৃত্তি—উভয়তে, আপোনাৰ জ্ঞান আৰু কৰ্মত, মই আপোনাৰ বোধক নিৰ্মল বুলি মানো; আন কাৰো তেনে নহয়।

The ideal teacher is competent in both paths: disciplined action aligned with dharma and inner renunciation aligned with insight. Purāṇic teaching often harmonizes these rather than opposing them.
Methodological framing: the requested cosmology and genealogy are to be taught by authorities who embody both ritual action (karma) and contemplative understanding (jñāna), strengthening the reliability of sarga/manvantara/vaṃśa accounts.
Pravṛtti and nivṛtti can be read as outward and inward movements of prāṇa and mind; ‘stainless intellect’ implies sattva-pradhāna buddhi capable of reflecting truth without distortion.
