Dharma-śaṅkā-nivāraṇa: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Response on Karma-Phala and Trust in Dharma

na tv evātmāvamantavyaḥ puruṣeṇa kadācana | na hy ātmaparibhūtasya bhūtir bhavati śobhanā ||

Educational Q&A

One should not belittle oneself; self-contempt undermines the very basis of flourishing. Ethical strength and outward prosperity are sustained by inner dignity and self-regard aligned with dharma.

In the Vana Parva dialogue context, Yudhiṣṭhira articulates a moral principle: a person must not lose heart or degrade himself, because such inner defeat prevents the attainment of honorable success and well-being.
