Vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca: satyaṃ prāptaṃ ca yuktaṃ vāpy evam eva yathāttha mām | śṛṇuṣv āgamane hetuṃ vidurāvahito bhava ||
The verse affirms that truthful speech should also be appropriate and well-reasoned (satya and yukta). It models ethical communication: acknowledge what is correct, then proceed with attentive listening to understand motives and causes.
Vaiśaṃpāyana addresses Vidura, agreeing with what Vidura has said and then asking him to listen carefully as he explains the purpose behind his arrival—setting up an important disclosure within the Udyoga Parva’s counsel-and-negotiation context.
