Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how grave actions (karma) can culminate in reciprocal consequences such as curses, and it frames ethical inquiry: the listener seeks the ‘next’ outcome, implying that deeds and their moral fallout unfold in a continuing chain.

Janamejaya, hearing the prior episode about Aśvatthāman and the mutual curse, asks the narrator to continue the story and specifically to report what Sañjaya said to Dhṛtarāṣṭra afterward.
