The Brahmin’s Vow and the Nāgas’ Hospitality Appeal
Brahman! Unhīṁ bhagavān paramadeva paramātmāke trīṇi lokēṣu yo devapriya avatāra bhaviṣyanti, teṣāṁ sadāiva parama-maṅgalaṁ bhavatu—ity eṣa asmākaṁ tapasyaḥ uddēśyaḥ.
That spiritual discipline (tapas) is rightly directed toward universal welfare: praying for the supreme auspiciousness of the Lord’s divine manifestations, which sustain and restore order across the three worlds.
Nārada addresses a Brahmin/ascetic and states the intention behind their austerities: a blessing and prayer that the forthcoming divine avatāras—beloved of the gods—may always be attended by the highest good.
