The verse underscores the fragility of worldly protection in times of catastrophe: when one’s protectors are gone, even powerful allies may be unable to intervene. It highlights the ethical and emotional reality of helplessness amid war’s devastation.
Sañjaya addresses Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) with a tender epithet and urges her not to proceed, stating that her protectors are absent and that the Pāṇḍavas are not in a position to help her—reflecting a moment of crisis and vulnerability within the war narrative.
