Educational Q&A

Even in violent and chaotic circumstances, leadership is shown through self-control and the restoration of order; restraint (saṁyama) precedes effective action, reflecting the ethical demand that power be governed by discipline.

Sañjaya reports that Droṇa, after a moment requiring control and regrouping, restrains and steadies his side and then re-establishes their battle formation, preparing them to continue the fight.
