The verse frames a moral and existential inquiry: even the greatest warrior is subject to mortality, and the listener is invited to consider how outcomes in war arise from a convergence of personal conduct, strategic circumstance, and destiny—raising ethical reflection on violence and its consequences.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra questions Sañjaya about the death of Droṇa. He expresses astonishment that such a powerful archer, after entering the Pañcāla ranks and crushing enemies, could nevertheless be slain, and asks for the account of how it occurred.
