Bhīṣma’s Pressure on Yudhiṣṭhira; Śikhaṇḍī’s Approach; Evening Withdrawal
यत् पुरा मत्सरी भूत्वा पाण्डवानवमन्यसे । तस्य पापस्य गान्धारे पश्य व्यसनमागतम्
yat purā matsarī bhūtvā pāṇḍavān avamanyase | tasya pāpasya gāndhāre paśya vyasanam āgatam ||
সঞ্জয়ে ক’লে—হে গান্ধাৰ (ধৃতৰাষ্ট্ৰ)! আগতে ঈৰ্ষ্যাৰে অন্ধ হৈ তুমি পাণ্ডৱসকলক অৱমাননা কৰিছিলা; সেই পাপৰ ফলতেই এতিয়া এই মহাবিপদ তোমাৰ ওপৰত আহি পৰিছে—চোৱা, দুৰ্দশা উপস্থিত।
संजय उवाच
Envy and contempt toward the righteous lead to moral downfall and tangible suffering; the verse frames present disaster as the karmic fruit of earlier wrongdoing.
Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra (called “Gāndhāra”), pointing out that the misfortune now befalling him is the result of the envy-driven disrespect shown earlier toward the Pāṇḍavas.
