सर्वगः सर्वविद्धानुर्विष्वक्सेनो जनार्दन: । वेदो वेदविदव्यज्जी वेदाड़ो वेदवित्‌ कवि:

sarvagaḥ sarvavid dhānur viṣvakseno janārdanaḥ | vedo vedavid avyajī vedāṅgo vedavit kaviḥ ||

ভীষ্ম ক’লে—তেওঁ সৰ্বগ—কাৰণৰূপে সৰ্বত্র ব্যাপ্ত; সৰ্ববিদ্ ধানু—সৰ্বজ্ঞ আলোকস্বৰূপ; বিষ্বক্সেন—যি শত্রুসেনাক ছিন্নভিন্ন কৰে; আৰু জনাৰ্দন—যাৰ ওচৰত ভক্তে অভ্যুদয় আৰু নিঃশ্ৰেয়স প্ৰাৰ্থনা কৰে। তেওঁেই বেদ; বেদবিদ্—বেদ আৰু তাৰ অৰ্থৰ যথাৰ্থ জ্ঞাতা; অব্যঙ্গ্য—সৰ্বাঙ্গসম্পূৰ্ণ, কোনো দিশতে অপূৰ্ণ নহয়; বেদাঙ্গ—বেদসমূহ তেওঁৰ অঙ্গ; বেদবিদ্—বেদবিচাৰক; আৰু কবি—সৰ্বজ্ঞ দ্ৰষ্টা।

The verse teaches that the supreme Lord (Viṣṇu/Janārdana) is simultaneously the protector in worldly struggle and the very ground of sacred knowledge.
