वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse teaches integrated ethical decision-making: one should choose a course of action that preserves family continuity, upholds dharma, and maintains the goodwill of sincere well-wishers—balancing personal, social, and moral obligations.
Vaiśampāyana, narrating the epic, reports advice given to a heroic figure addressed as “Paraṃtapa,” urging him to act in a way that avoids dynastic rupture, prevents any breach of dharma, and keeps trusted friends satisfied.
