श्रीराजोवाच देवासुरनृणां सर्गो नागानां मृगपक्षिणाम् । सामासिकस्त्वया प्रोक्तो यस्तु स्वायम्भुवेऽन्तरे ॥ १ ॥ तस्यैव व्यासमिच्छामि ज्ञातुं ते भगवन् यथा । अनुसर्गं यया शक्त्या ससर्ज भगवान् पर: ॥ २ ॥
śrī-rājovāca devāsura-nṛṇāṁ sargo nāgānāṁ mṛga-pakṣiṇām sāmāsikas tvayā prokto yas tu svāyambhuve ’ntare
শ্ৰী ৰজাই ক’লে—স্বায়ম্ভুৱ মন্বন্তৰত দেৱ, অসুৰ, মানুহ, নাগ, পশু আৰু পক্ষীৰ যি সৃষ্টি হৈছিল, আপুনি সেয়া সংক্ষেপে কৈছে। এতিয়া, হে ভগৱন, মই সেই কথাই বিস্তাৰে জানিব বিচাৰোঁ; আৰু পৰম ভগৱানে কোন শক্তিৰে অনুসৃষ্টি (দ্বিতীয় সৃষ্টি) ৰচনা কৰিলে সেয়াও জানিব খোজোঁ।
