yugādimanvādidine gṛhe kāryo mahotsavaḥ | tīrthe vā gamanaṃ kāryaṃ gṛhācchataguṇaṃ yataḥ
Sārasvata (continuing)
Tirtha: Vastrāpatha-kṣetra (and tīrthas generally)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A household prepares a mahotsava with lamps and offerings while another group sets out on pilgrimage with flags and water pots; a caption-like motif shows ‘100x’ as symbolic radiance emanating from the tīrtha.
Holy places amplify spiritual effort; on cosmically significant days, pilgrimage to a tīrtha yields vastly greater merit than ordinary domestic observance.
The verse promotes tīrtha-going in general while situated in the Vastrāpathakṣetra-māhātmya of Prabhāsa Khaṇḍa, implicitly extolling Vastrāpatha/Prabhāsa as a prime destination.
Celebrate a mahotsava at home on Yugādi/Manvādi, or undertake tīrtha-yātrā on those days for multiplied merit.
